Berlin 23.04.2010
The government coalition: this week after agreed in the various documentation and
certification requirements for Nachhaltigkeitszertifzierung for biofuels and biomass
for liquid only first January 2011 set in full force. Until now, the first July set as the deadline.
Information launched by
ISCC-Project Meó Corporate Development GmbH
ISCC System GmbH has obtained the first recognition as Certification System for Biomasses and Bioenergies
The recognition was issued January 18th, 20120 by the German BLE.
ISCC System will start immediately.
On January 20th, the first press conference was held by Staatssekretärin Julia Kloeckner in Berlin
Due to the growing market relevance of bioenergies and the increasing use of agricultural feedstock for their production, the discussion about sustainability has gained in importance.
Sustainable production is a precondition for further increasing bioenergy production and use. The use of biomass for fuel, heat or power production represents a large potential for climate protection, diversification of the energy mix, and can lead to a reduction of the import dependency.
The project is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agricultre and Consumer Protection / Agency for Renewable Resources.(FNR).
(FNR).
E-mail newsletter of the "RSPO" the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil
25 June, 2009
One third of European palm oil could now be labeled ‘sustainable’ .
Six months after the first shipload of RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil was delivered to ports in Europe, the combined annual production capacity of certified palm oil producers in Southeast Asia has swelled to 1.75 million tonnes. If all that capacity were used by buyers in Europe, more than 33 percent of all palm oil imported to the EU could now be marketed as ‘sustainable palm oil’. (The EU currently imports about 5.3 million tons of palm oil per year.)
Four regions now contribute about equally to the world’s sustainable palm oil supply: Sabah (Malaysia), Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Malaysian Peninsula.
Many more palm oil production sites are in the process of having their plantations and production methods thoroughly checked for compliance with the Roundtable’s environmental and social criteria, ensuring healthy growth in production capacity in the months ahead.
Sustainable palm oil products hit the consumer market
Using an abundant supply of RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil, consumer goods manufacturers have begun to introduce products for the consumer market.
For example, Sainsbury’s, a British retail chain that has pledged to use 100 percent certified oil by 2014, saw sales of its “Basics” Brand fish fingers double after it introduced sustainable palm oil as an ingredient. Since introducing RSPO-certified palm oil as an ingredient to their Basics fish fingers, the retailer has set out to expand the use of sustainable palm oil in its full frozen fish range as much as possible.
Henkel, a German-based consumer product maker, successfully introduced a range of household cleaning products containing certified palm kernel oil. They are sold under the Terra Activ brand. The company had acquired certificates from RSPO-certified producers through the GreenPalm trading system.
